2019 Bucket List

Wow, I can’t believe it’s been a year since I promised another post within a week. In my defence, 2018 was crazy! I travelled to Norway for skiing and family. I started my “grown-up” job as a Civil Engineer (Yuhu!) and I graduated from university. I gained 10 kg (Not so much Yuhu). I travelled to Melbourne and Great Ocean Rd, did a road trip to Tropical North Queensland with my little sisters (3 sisters, 1 friend, 1 boyfriend and a Subaru Outback filled with camping equipment driving 3,500 km were quite interesting). I did numerous camping trips around South East Queensland and got surprised every time my pollen allergies were acting up (who would have thought sleeping on grass is bad for hay fever?). I twisted my ankle playing soccer. Then I tried to out-run my boyfriend down a mountain and twisted the other ankle. I started Yoga, realized that I hate Yoga, so I quit Yoga. And then I tricked my very drunk boyfriend into signing a contract saying we will get a puppy in 2019 (My lawyer friend says it’s legal and binding).

2019 bucketlist

I have so many amazing memories from 2018, but with 2019 well and truly begun, I have a feeling this year is going to be even better! As I’m no longer studying I might even leave the tent at home and live the luxury life of Airbnb (The $50 a night sort of place, you know).

This year will mainly consist of weekend and day-trips as my better half is still studying and I’m working full time. Luckily, there is so much to see and do around Brisbane that I doubt I will ever get through it all. Which brings me to:

My 2019 bucket list

  • Visit Stradbroke Island
  • 4WD around Bribie Island
  • Hike Mt Maroon and stay at Mt Barney Lodge
  • Buy a paddle board and get really good at it (I will also settle for average)
  • Learn to surf (This one’s been on my list for 4 years now…)
  • Explore Kondalilla National Park
  • Sip cocktails with my girlfriends   Fuime Bar just opened and it’s our new favorite!
  • Spend a weekend sipping wine in the hot-tub at Girraween Environmental Lodge
  • Do a Yoga retreat in Byron Bay (Just kidding, I hate Yoga. I’ll be sitting on the beach with a bottle of wine)
  • Go for a dip in Tallebudgera Creek
  • Explore Fraser Island (preferable by a sailboat)
  • Swim in Boloumba Creek Falls
  • Hunt for treasures at Eumundi Market
  • Catch the sunrise from Mt Coolum
  • Get a puppy and take it for a walk along Sunshine Beach
  • Have a champagne picnic with my girls (This is like a picnic out of my dreams)
  • Celebrate Christmas in Norway surrounded by family. TICKETS ARE BOOKED!!

Any suggestions to what else I could put on my bucket list? After all, there are 52 weekends in a year…





Great Ocean Road

As you might have seen on my Instagram, my partner and I just spent a long weekend discovering parts of Great Ocean Road.

We picked the car up after a longer breakfast Saturday morning (Hot tip: If you pick the car up from outside the city centre you can save hundreds of dollars), and after stocking up on the essentials (Chocolates and chips) we were on our way.

Our first stop was Torquay. We had a quick walk around but as the weather was shocking (Velcome to Victoria!) we quickly decided to do most of the sightseeing from the car. Next on the list was the popular surf beach, Bells Beach.



From there on we drove without a plan. Everything was stunning and we decided to stop wherever we wanted to. That worked in my favour as we drove past a chocolate factory (WITH FREE SAMPLES!!!!). We stopped at most lookouts we drove past, incuding Anglesea, Aireys Inlet and Lorne.



Cold and wet after walking in the rain all day, we decided to check in to our studio apartment a bit earlier for a bubble bath and champage. We stayed at Sea Zen in Wye River. About halfway between Melbourne and the Twelve Apostles, the location was perfect for us and the apartment ticked all the boxes.


Next morning we were up before the sun (Or at least we thought we were. Turned out we had just another very grey day ahead of us…) and off to the local cafe for what we’d heard would be the best coffee on the Great Ocean Road. The coffee wasn’t too bad and the food was okay, but what really did blow my mind away was their Polish Doughnuts!

From there we started our drive to the famous spots along the Great Ocean Road (See this post ). As the day before, we stopped everywhere we saw something interesting. It caused a bit of an argument when I suddenly yelled STOP and my boyfriend hit the breaks thinking it was a crisis. It was sort of a crisis, the clouds broke and it created the most perfect light and we just happen to drive past a lookout.



How to defeat jet lag

When it comes to how to adjust to new time zones, I am defiantly not the one to ask for advice. No one suffers from jet lag like I do. You might have heard that it takes approximately one day to adjust for each time zone you travel through? That’s 9 days of suffering between Oslo and Brisbane. If you’re one of those lucky ones that does not get jet lagged at all, jet lag feels like waking up after a wild weekend in the Valley. If you’re one of those who doesn’t get hungover either, just stop reading, I don’t need your kind of negativity in my life

Instead of being the normal jet lagged me, lying in bed crying and eating chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner, I started googling how to get rid of it (Who am I kidding, I googled while lying in bed eating chocolate).

This is the list I stole put together from various sources out there


  1. Leave home well rested. Get a good night sleep before your journey starts. Long distance flying is exhausting enough as it is, and you’re not doing yourself a favor holding back on sleep to ensure you’re more tired on the plane.
  2. Change up your habits. If your body is used to going to sleep or eating at certain times a day, chances are you will suffer worse from jet lag. Try changing up your pattern a few days before you’re due to leave. Preferable change it so it’s closer to what you’d expect at your destination.
  3. West is best, east is a beast. Therefore, always travel east.
  4. Avoid arriving at night. This way you have daylight and it’s easier to spend the day exploring before you go to bed early night. Although if you’re flying on a budget you usually don’t have much of an option here and like me just have to arrive whenever it suits the wallet. When flying between Norway and Australia I often prefer to arrive at night anyway, I’m usually exhausted and just wanna sleep.
  5. Get a good seat. Window seats let you lean again the wall. Aisle seats and you can stretch your legs. Or even better, business or first class (I wouldn’t actually know, as I never tried it…). The app SeatGuru let you access your flights seating plan, so that you can ensure you get the seat that suits you best, and help you avoid that much feared middle seat. I still have nightmares after my Stockholm – Dubai flight in 2013 where I got seated between two snoring over-averaged-sized men. The snoring was not the worst part.
  6. Stay away from sugar, alcohol and coffee. Yeah, this one is a little unclear, do they mean while flying or like… before and after as well?
  7. Exercises. Stretch your legs regularly and do some easy workouts to ensure blood flow while in the air. Invest in a pair of compression socks to minimize the swelling  and improve circulation. Oh, and I’ve been told that it’s always a good idea to go for a walk or run once you arrive at your destination. I’m one of those who get really grumpy while tired, and it’s not a good idea to tell grumpy Sol to move her ass, so I just let her stay in bed all day.

Alure Stanthorpe

Combine remoteness, nature and wildlife with the luxury of hot showers, gourmet food and soft beds? Let me introduce you to glamping! Glamping per definition is luxurious camping, but at Alure Stanthorpe it’s so much more. A private hot-tub? A built in fireplace? Luxurious bedding, soft bathrobes and matching slippers? I dare say this tent is better equipped than most hotels I’ve stayed in!


The tent is a safari tent imported from Africa, with a built in kitchen and bathroom. The property is over 50 acres big, and with only one tent and two villas you get privacy like nowhere else. As impressive as this sounds, I haven’t even told you about the highlight of the stay, the sunrise!




Rise and shine! The sunrise is spectacular, and you don’t even have to leave the bed for it. And can I fancy you a breakfast basket with fresh bread, apple juice from Suttons Farm, jam from Jamwork Stanthorpe and home-made cereal? And the best part about it all? Your own coffee machine in the tent for unlimited cappuccinos!


Spend all day in bed, take a few walks around the property and say hello to the animals. Head to Girraween National park to explore granite rock formations and spectacular views, or go wine tasting from one of the many wineries in Stanthorpe (You absolutely have to go to Ballandean Estate Winery, They make my favorite Rosé and although I haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, the barrelroom diner looks divine!). There’s something for everyone in Stanthorpe, and it’s a reason why we keep coming back for more!

Sunflower heaven

Summer means sunflowers! If you haven’t checked it out yet you have to make a trip to Warwick in Southern Down Regions to check out the sunflower fields that goes on for mile after mile! Take the scenic route and stop by Queen Mary Falls to make it a day trip. I highly recommend walking the circuit that takes you down to the base of the waterfall (It’s not as steep as it looks like from the top), the fall is even more spectacular from below. Make it even better, bring some food and a bottle of wine (for the passenger- of course. That’s why I never drive) for an amazing picnic!
